Angelo Mangiarotti was born in Milan in 1921. He graduated from the Politecnico School of Architecture in Milan in 1948.

He went to work in the United States from 1953 to 1954 as a professor. It was during his trip that he met Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and Konrad Wachsmann. On his return from the United States, he opened an architectural firm in collaboration with Bruno Morassutti until 1960. In 1989, he founded the Tokyo-based Mangiarotti & Associates office. From 1986 to 1992, he was artistic director of Colle Cristalleria. In parallel with all his work, Angelo Mangiarotti takes the time to give courses in many universities around the world. He also participates in numerous international seminars and conferences.

Through his creations, the Italian designer highlights the essential characteristics of each object. He explains the fundamental theories in his book "In nome dell'architettura" published in 1987.

For him, architectural language becomes the expression of a new relationship between man and the environment. In addition, he gives a very important role to plastic research in his activity as a designer. The aim of his research, which is always carried out with great care to respect the characteristics of the material, is to define the shape of the object as the quality of the material.
