Karim Rashid was born in 1960 in Cairo. He immigrated as a young boy to Canada where, in 1982, he graduated in Industrial Design from Carleton University in Ottawa. He continued his design studies in Italy: in Naples with Ettore Sotsass and in Milan at the design studio of Rodolfo Bonetto. Back in Toronto, he collaborated with Kan Industrial Designers and founded Bael Inc. and North Studio (1985-1991). In 1983, he opened his own studio in New York. Since then, he has designed products, tableware and furniture for companies such as Nambé, Umbra, Pure Design, Guzzini, Tommy Hilfiger, Sony, Citibank, Totem and others. He has won many prizes, notably in the year 1999: the DaimlerChrysler Award, the George Nelson Award, the IDEA Silver Award for Oh Chair and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Award. The fluid style of this famous designer is minimalist in style yet immediately identifiable: tangy colors, rounded lines, sensual and organic. From the Karim Rashid universe emerges an extraordinary positive energy! He is constantly experimenting with forms and colors, producing new creations that are so unexpected, never seen before. He never ceases to surprise us. Karim Rashid's designs are in the permanent collections of more than twenty museums worldwide. He is a designer of international reputation.
