Omar Carraglia (born 1969 in Barcelona, Spain) is an industrial designer who has created an extensive body of minimalist and conceptual lighting designs in collaboration with Italian manufacturer Davide Groppi.
This collaboration has resulted in a wide variety of designs that are nevertheless marked by a consistent elegance and modernity. Narrow and focused, with clean lines and defined geometric contrasts, Carraglia's Mira 2012 family of lamps shapes and defines the centre of any space, while its ABA 120 floor lamps and ABA 45 table lamps bring a sense of novelty to a classic form.
Playfulness is another essential quality of many Carraglia designs. This inherent sense of fun can be seen in the whimsical Imu, a brightly coloured outdoor birdhouse lamp, or Carraglia's Mister 2013 floor lamp, a response and companion piece to its own Miss 2006 pendant.
Pigreco, a new table lamp released by Davide Groppi in 2019, reveals intriguing new choices by Omar Carraglia. Most notable is the inclusion of a natural wood base, which brings a warmth and earthiness to the lamp, which is itself a partially frosted glass sphere. Pigreco evokes the soft, rounded shapes of Carraglia's Cathode and Light My Fire designs, but merged with his fascination with the precision in perfection of a sphere.
Many of his designs have earned Carraglia several major industry awards.
